The Quantile Framework for Mathematics
The Quantile Framework for Mathematics is a scientific approach to measuring mathematical achievement and concept/application solvability. A Quantile measure represents the difficulty of a mathematical skill, concept or application (called Quantile Skills and Concepts (QSCs]) and a developing mathematician’s mastery of the QSCs in the areas of Geometry, Measurement, Numbers and Operations, Algebra, and Data Analysis and Probability.
The Quantile Framework spans the developmental continuum from kindergarten mathematics through the content typically taught in Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus, from below OQ (Emerging Mathematician) to above 1600Q. Quantile measures take the guesswork out of determining which mathematical skills a developing mathematician has mastered and which ones require further instruction. All Quantile products, tools and services rely on the Quantile measure and the Quantile scale to match students with mathematical resources.

The Student Quantile Measurement for Mathematics
The student Quantile measure should be linked to the mathematics, mathematics application, or problem solving scale score. For instructional purposes, the Quantile measure should be reported at the student and classroom levels. Quantile measures should appear on reports that are sent home to parents and reports that are provided to the current grade-level teacher and/or the next grade-level teacher.
To monitor whether a student is “on track” to be college and career ready after Grade 12, the student’s Quantile measure should also be interpreted with a long-term perspective on growth, using the Quantile Growth Planner. During test development, mathematics items and tasks can be aligned with a Quantile Skill and Concept (QSC) and, in turn, to the Quantile scale at a conceptual level to inform the mathematical demand of test forms. This alignment will also provide connections to prerequisite and impending QSCs from the Quantile Knowledge Cluster database.
